As another step in fighting the global warming, some social welfare organization have come up with the initiative of switching off the power for about an hour on May 3rd in Hyderabad. They also have put up some simple suggestions of tackling the global warming which everyone can easily follow. I totally support their initiative and i'm planning to avoid using unnecessary power for the entire day. On the similar lines of making people aware how computers and other electronic devices have changed the life of an individual (be it good or bad), shutdown day is happening on the same day and i have already decided to participate. I thought I'll spend my day watching tv or roaming around for the whole day but now I'm planning to do something that will bring wellness to the society we live in.
I always insist people not to waste anything be it power, water (but who listens:) ) or whatever even it is cheap / or you can afford it easily. Most of the people i have seen are too careless and say what will it cause by saving few drops of water or power consumed by tv for additional half-an-hour. But my concern is that why to waste anything if we don't need it because there will always be someone somewhere benefited even by the meager resource we say. I sometime get very disappointed and angry seeing even the well-educated people don't understand these things / they think they don't have time to think about these things. They should feel it is everyone's responsibility to make our earth, a beautiful place to live in for our future generations.
I request the readers of this post - try to correct at least two or three of your activities that you feel might save our fast depleting resources. Some of the things i do generally are
1. Turn of the computer monitor whenever I'm not using it. ( If you are not using anything that consumes power (though it is very less), switch them off)
2. Turn of the vehicle's engine in the signals.
3. Close the water pipe completely. If you see some pipes leaking, try to close it completely or report to the concerned person who will take care of that.
4. Whenever I stay in a hostel/rooms, make sure to turn off the light and fan when you leave the room.
5. Try to avoid using vehicles when you can reach there by walk .
Another small thing that causes a huge impact on the air pollution is the under utilization of a vehicle. I mean, I call two people starting from a same nearby area and destined towards the same place using two cars is under utilizing the resource. You don't need to find people who are going to the same place as you are every time or go with a stranger, but if you and roommate are going to your workspace which is located nearer, just co-ordinate among yourself and go.
I know, together definitely we can fight global warming and save our EARTH!!
